The HIV Positive Guide

This website has been designed to support and provide information to those diagnosed with HIV. The content was developed by people living with HIV and/or staff members who have many years of experience in working with people living with HIV, we hope you'll find it useful.

Please note that the website is currently in it's beta phase so if you notice any problems with it, we'd be grateful if you could let us know at: admin@mesmac.co.uk

Some people say that when they received their HIV result, all the information that was given to them is a blur and they found it too difficult to take in whilst others remember everything. Here we’ll explain how the HIV test showed that you have HIV, and what happened when you were given your test result.

There are many useful websites that have helped people to live well with HIV; some of the best websites are provided as links throughout this website. Topics on this site range from getting the most out of health consultations, making decisions about relationships, deciding about telling people you have HIV and making choices about sex. There's also practical information about a wide range of issues such as employment, benefits and looking after your health.

If you have been recently diagnosed, or don't know much about HIV, then the best place to start is the Just Diagnosed section.

If you have not been diagnosed, but are thinking of testing please visit the website for our community based rapid HIV testing services, Testing Times.

The website has been built with HIV positive adults in West Yorkshire in mind, whilst many of the national organisations that we use as a point of information may be based outside of Yorkshire, local services within Yorkshire are listed in the Local Services section.

Websites with young people and children in mind:

If you can’t find the answer to your questions here, or if you have any other comments, then let us know by using the contact options provided.

This website has been produced by HIV charities in West Yorkshire that provide community based sexual health services including HIV social support, community testing, and HIV prevention services.
